Multnomah Falls and Mount Hood Tour
Activity Details
How about we take you to the highest point in Oregon? What if we told you that we'll also visit some of the most impressive natural sites around Portland? To do so, we'll pick you up at your Portland hotel at the appointed time and begin this day trip to Multnomah Falls and Mount Hood.
Once everyone is ready, we'll embark on a pleasant half-hour journey to our first stop. Along the way, we'll cross the Columbia River Gorge, marveling at its steep cliffs and Casa Vista, a historic lookout point that still retains the elegance of the era in which it was built.
We'll reach the imposing Multnomah Falls, with its 189-m (620 ft) drop. Did you know that they are the highest in Oregon? There, we'll make a half-hour stop to explore the area and admire the Benson Bridge, suspended in this dreamlike landscape. Further on, the Rowena Crest Viewpoint will offer us unique panoramic views of the Columbia River's meanders for 20 minutes. Get your cameras ready!
Next, we'll arrive at the Packer Bakery, where we'll make a 20-minute stop so you can sample local products on your own before continuing on to the Hood River. There, for an hour, we'll discover a place of crystal clear waters that nourishes valleys and farming communities. Did you know that this river originates in the glaciers of Mount Hood?
The route will continue through the Mount Hood National Forest, among coniferous trails, Tamanawas Falls, and White River West Park with the snow-capped peak in the background. This brings us to Timberline Lodge, a historic lodge at an altitude of over 1,800 m (5,900 ft), which we'll visit for half an hour.
We'll learn about its past and observe its Great Depression architecture, famous for being a landmark for skiers in the United States. From here, we can admire the imposing silhouette of Mount Hood, Oregon's highest peak, which still has 12 glaciers. Impressive, right?
Finally, we'll begin our return trip to Portland, where we'lll say goodbye and drop you off at your hotel after an 8.5-hour excursion.
